Bluffton's volleyball team followed up Tuesday's dominating performance with a win Thursday that coach Al Stern thought may have been even better.
The Bobcats swept White Knoll 25-16, 25-17, 25-9 at home to advance to the Lower State semifinals of the Class 4-A playoffs.
"If it was possible to play better than we did Tuesday, we did tonight," Stern said. "White Knoll was a considerably better team than Goose Creek."
The Bobcats committed just 10 errors in Tuesday's 25-7, 25-7, 25-11 sweep of Goose Creek. They committed 11 Thursday night.
"We just ran a good, fast offense and we didn't make errors," Stern said. "By the third game, they were kind of demoralized."
The Bobcats will travel Tuesday to face Wando, a 3-0 winner over Lexington on Thursday. The Warriors are 45-5.
"I can't believe how well they're playing," Stern said. "It's what I wanted to happen. They're peaking at the end of the season. It rarely happens, but it's happening now."
Hilton Head Island High 3, Gilbert 0: The Seahawks swept Gilbert 27-25, 25-8, 25-21 to advance to the Lower State semifinals of the Class 3-A volleyball playoffs.
"Aileen Moore (did an) excellent job from the service line, and Haley Matousek (played) solid defense in the back row," Seahawks assistant coach Sara Beachkofsky-Moore said in an email.
Sierra Davis led the Seahawks with 16 kills, while Brantley Herrington tallied seven kills and nine blocks. Mallory Lewis added eight kills and a block, while Hannah Edelman had 15 kills, a block and an ace.
Renee Homad made 42 assists and had two blocks and a kill, while Blair Daber tallied three aces.
Hilton Head Island travels Tuesday to face North Myrtle Beach, a 3-0 winner over Marlboro County on Thursday.
