SCISAA Class 3-A state tournament: Hilton Head Christian Academy survived to play another day in the double-elimination tournament in Sumter.
The Eagles defeated Orangeburg Prep in the opening round Thursday, 25-14, 25-22, before falling to top-seeded Cardinal Newman 25-18, 25-17. Hilton Head Christian then beat Wilson Hall in three games to advance.
The Eagles will play Ashley Hall at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for a spot in the 3-A semifinals. The championship match is scheduled for Tuesday.

"We're going to see how deep we can go here," Hilton Head Christian coach Steve DeSimone said. "I think we'll do fine."
Stevie DeSimone led the Eagles with 38 kills, nine aces and 14 digs over the three matches. Hannah Reynolds finished with 32 assists and five kills. Lilly Strickland added 18 assists, four blocks and seven kills. Logan Cherry had eight kills and seven blocks. Andy Anderson came up with 38 digs and six aces. And Kerry Davis finished with 11 digs and eight kills.
Tri-match at Bluffton: Bluffton High School clinched the Region 8-AAAA title at home and knocked off its rival in the same night.
The Bobcats defeated Fort Dorchester 25-13, 25-18 to improve to 9-0 in the region. Fort Dorchester, the closest region competition, was handed its third league loss.
Bluffton handled rival Hilton Head High, winning games 25-17, 25-16.
The Seahawks beat the Patriots 25-16, 25-19.
Bluffton improved to 33-13-2 overall. The Bobcats play at Ashley Ridge on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Sierra Davis helped lead Hilton Head High (23-5) with 13 kills and two blocks. Hannah Edelman added 12 kills and three aces, Mallory Lewis had eight kills and three blocks, Claire Kent contributed nine kills and six blocks, and Renee Homad finished with 41 assists and an ace.
The Seahawks will host a Class 3-A first-round playoff match on Oct. 28.

Bluffton 6, Fort Dorchester 0: Bluffton continued its run through region play.
The Bobcats have only one loss in Region 8-AAAA. They play at Beaufort High on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. to close the region schedule.
