Beaufort High School tennis coach David Riedmayer has been recognized by the United States Tennis Association for his policy of not turning away players.
Riedmayer, in his eighth year coaching Eagles tennis, earned the No-Cut Starfish Award from the USTA Southern section and was named to the USTA's No-Cut Coach All-Star team. The nationwide team began this year to recognize coaches who offer a "no-cut" policy. Coaches are nominated by their respective sections.
To qualify, coaches must be implementing a no-cut policy, be registered with the USTA as a no-cut coach and much have coached tennis for a minimum of five years.
"These recipients embody what it means to be an advocate for our sport," USTA Schools national manager Jason Jamison said in a release. "We are proud to recognize their efforts to ensure players of all levels are part of a team."
Never miss a local story.
As the South Carolina nominee, Riedmayer received a case of tennis balls for his team. As the Starfish Award-winner, he earned registration, travel and lodging to the UTSA Community Development Workshop in Denver, Colo.
