Beaufort High School overcame a sluggish first half Friday to move to 2-0 on the season with a 21-0 shutout at Aiken.
The teams battled to a 0-0 halftime tie, combining for just 165 yards -- 85 from the Eagles.
But the second half was a different story.
Ben Vaigneur hit Stephen Baggett on a 24-yard scoring strike to open the scoring at the 8:10 mark of the third quarter.
Eric Blakely ran up the middle for a 63-yard touchdown later in the quarter. He finished with 145 yards a a score on 11 carries.
Beaufort High's final touchdown was a strange one.
Aiken quarterback Caleb Heath, who was under pressure all night, stepped up into a collapsing pocket and ran 25 yards for a long first down at the Eagle 35. Jaylen Smith lost 5 yards on a rush the next play, but the Hornets got it back on a penalty.
Then, Heath hit Smith in the hands with a screen pass that appeared to fall incomplete, but the officials ruled it a fumble. Beaufort's Jawon Mack scooped it for a 64-yard touchdown, the final score of the night.
The Green Hornets drop to 0-2.
