The numbers were simply too much for Hilton Head Christian Academy on Friday.
Hammond School, a SCISAA 3-A school which boasts more than 60 players on its roster, rolled over the 2-A Eagles, who have roughly two dozen, 49-23.
Coach Ryan Mitch, in his Hilton Head Christian debut, was at least part of his team's offense.
"Offensively, we played great," Mitch said. " We probably had over 300 yards. We moved the ball up and down the field.
Never miss a local story.
"But defensively, we weren't very good. Our guys were just beat. They were going both ways and they were exhausted."
The Skyhawks (1-0) had 467 yards of offense on the night.
After an early J.R. Moise 22-yard field goal, the Eagles (0-1) got two touchdown runs from Brad Meccariello (10 and 2 yards) and a long score from DeAngelo Clark (47 yards) to account for all their scoring.
T.J. Brady rushed for 122 yards and three scores for Hammond, while quarterback Davis King threw for 293 yards and four TDs.
"We need to get better defensively," Mitch said, "but from an offensive standpoint, we were pretty good."
