Hilton Head Christian 5, Hammond 1: The Eagles won the SCISAA playoff matchup without usual No. 1 singles player Hampton Drake, who injured his wrist in the team's regular season finale against Porter-Gaud.
Drake remains iffy for Wednesday's playoff matches, coach Eric Wammock said, when the Eagles expect to play either Porter-Gaud or Heathwood Hall. Their match Monday was rained out and rescheduled for today.
The Eagles would host in the next round should Heathwood Hall win today.
"Everybody stepped up" in Drake's absence," Wammock said.
Key among the Eagles' wins was Cameron Clark at No. 4. His 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 comeback victory ended the match.
Doubles were not played.
