The Beaufort High School softball team has been in this type of situation before.
The Eagles travel to Wando on Wednesday night hoping for another upset. They open the Class 4-A, District 7 playoffs -- a double-elimination format -- at 6:30 p.m.
The Warriors are the Region 7 champions.
"I like the opportunity," Beaufort High coach Doug Plank said. "I think we've shown some signs of playing some real good ball this year."
Never miss a local story.
Beaufort High (18-9) defeated Wando 4-3 at a March tournament. Wando is ranked No. 4 in the latest S.C. Softball Coaches Association poll.
Plank, whose team has defeated four top-10 teams this season and each team in its region, is optimistic. Ace Jenny Mullins will take the circle for Beaufort High.
"When Jenny (Mullins) has her pitches moving, when our bats are talking as they should, and when we play the good D we are capable of, we can be a dangerous team," Plank said. "If our players have their game on, they could go far into these playoffs. The Eagles have shown that they can play with anyone. It's a decision waiting for them to make. They know when the bus leaves."
