Area track and field teams competed Saturday at the Cane Bay Invitational at Cane Bay.
In the boys competition, Beaufort High placed second behind champion Startford, and Battery Creek finished 17th.
Beaufort High won the girls team title with 95 points. Battery Creek placed 12th.
For the Beaufort High boys, top performers included Desmond Howard, who won the 400 meters in 50.02 and placed second in the 200; Nathan Parker, who won the 400 hurdles in 57.80; Tony Winston, who took second in the boys 110 hurdles; Brandon Pratt, who placed third in the 3,200; and Darrian Chaplin, who was third in the 400.
The Eagles 4x100 relay team took second.
Howard was named the meet's outstanding runner.
For the Dolphins, Shakil Gause placed second in the boys shot put.
In the girls meet, Beaufort High got a win from Amanda Barnes in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches). Other standouts included Madison Maddox, who was second in the 800 and second in the 3,200; Kaila Smith, who was second in the 100 hurdles; and Tiffany Robinson, who placed second in the 100.
Beaufort High also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Quamecha Morrison of Battery Creek was first in the girls high jump (5-0), as well as third in the 100 hurdles and third in the 200. Daisja Cannon was eighth in the 100.
