Hilton Head Christian 2, Ashley Hall 0 (OT): The Hilton Head Christian Academy girls soccer team broke open a defensive battle with region opponent Ashley Hall on Friday, scoring twice in the overtime periods for a 2-0 victory.
After working through a scoreless regulation, Allison Meeder put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the 85th minute, putting a shot into the top of the net from 23 yards away. Rebecca Meeder had the assist.
In the 88th minute, the Eagles took advantage of an overly aggressive Ashley Hall attack as Audrey Bensch scored on an assist by Lexi Lainhart to ice the game.
Hilton Head Christian (12-3 overall, 6-2 region) got strong goalkeeping from Meaghan Gillis, who made five saves, including one critical save in overtime that she tipped over the crossbar.
The Eagles go back to work at 11 a.m. Saturday, hosting Catholic Memorial of Wisconsin.
Porter-Gaud 7, Hilton Head Christian Academy 2: J.D. Reichel went 2 for 4 with a run and three stolen bases, but the Eagles could not come away with a win.
Alec Ambrosic and Ryan Barrett added one hit each for the Eagles (6-7 overall, 1-4 region).
Ambrosic took the loss on the mound, pitching 3 1-3 innings.
The Eagles return to the field at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, playing at First Baptist.
