Hilton Head Prep 45, Bible Baptist 25: Defense led the Hilton Head Prep boys basketball team into the final of the school's annual RET Thomas Memorial Holiday Tournament on Friday, as the Dolphins shut down Bible Baptist in the second half en route to a 45-25 victory.
Hilton Head Prep (6-3) led 24-15 at the half but broke it open in the third quarter by limiting the Braves to just two points. Bible Baptist scored only 10 points in the second half.
"I could not be more proud of them," first-year Prep coach Jerry Faulkner said. "It's been a situation where the kids have bought in, particularly on the defensive end of the floor. They know that's where it starts."

John Eck led the Dolphins with 12 points, and Randy Young had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds -- the fourth straight game in which he has finished with double-digit rebounds. Cole Gardocki added nine points and Shaun Topper had eight. Charlie Wilmot, the team's lone senior, had three assists.
Hilton Head Prep will try to avenge last season's loss in the tournament finals to Hilton Head Christian Academy. Tipoff of the boys championship game will be at 6:15 p.m.
Keynnard Campbell had 12 points to lead Bible Baptist (1-5).
Hilton Head Christian Academy 70, Thomas Heyward Academy 46: Brad Meccariello notched 20 points and Zach Polk scored 14 as Hilton Head Christian cruised to the win in the RET Thomas Memorial Holiday Tournament.
The Eagles (5-4), who led 34-16 at halftime, advanced to today's tournament finals, where they will play Hilton Head Prep in a rematch of last year's final.
Zack Newton led Thomas Heyward with 11 points. The Rebels face Bible Baptist in today's consolation game at 2:45 p.m. at Hilton Head Prep.
Beaufort Academy 48, Patrick Henry 42: Preston Suber had 18 points to spark Beaufort Academy to the road win. Connor Akers added 17 points and Finn Koppernaes chipped in 10 for the Eagles.
Beaufort Academy (4-4) next hosts James Island Christian on Tuesday.
Middle School: Thomas Heyward Academy 33, St. Francis 17
Thomas Heyward Academy 38, Hilton Head Christian Academy 29: The Rebels remained undefeated and advanced to the championship game of the annual RET Thomas Memorial Holiday Tournament, pulling away from the Eagles in the final quarter.
The game was tied at 10 at halftime, and it remained tied going into the final quarter, but Thomas Heyward outscored the Christian Academy by nine to improve to 10-0 on the season.
"It was a scrappy game by both teams," Eagles coach Kenny Conroy said.
Jamie Malphrus scored 21 points to lead the Rebels. Chandler Cook added eight points, and Taylor Ernestine and Ellie Bryant each had four.
Ziarre Doe led Hilton Head Christian (6-6) with 11 points. Andy Anderson finished with nine and Monica Bundy scored five for the Eagles, who will play Hilton Head Prep in the consolation game of the tournament at 1 p.m. today at Hilton Head Prep.
Thomas Heyward will play Bible Baptist in today's championship at 4:30 p.m. at Prep.
Bible Baptist 55, Hilton Head Prep 17: Lyndsey Conley scored 21 points to lead the Braves into today's championship game of the RET Thomas Memorial Holiday Tournament at Prep. Bible Baptist takes on Thomas Heyward at 4:15 p.m. in the girls championship game at Prep.
Maddie McDonald led Hilton Head Prep with seven points. The Dolphins will host Hilton Head Christian at 1 p.m. today.
Beaufort Academy 35, Patrick Henry 30: Miranda Weslake and McKenzie Blake scored eight points apiece to help the Eagles hang on for the win.
Beaufort Academy led 18-14 at halftime and was up 28-26 going into the fourth quarter. The Eagles' lead never became more than five or six points the entire game, according to coach Joe Matheny.
Beaufort Academy returns to action at 5 p.m. Tuesday, hosting James Island Christian.
