SCISAA Class 3-A State Championships: Hilton Head Prep finished up its cross country season Saturday in Columbia, running at the SCISAA Class 3-A state meet at Hammond School.
The Hilton Head Prep boys, led by Jackson Henz, finished in fifth place. Porter-Gaud won the boys championship.
Henz finished 12th individually with a time of 18 minutes, 1 second.
Heathwood Hall won the girls title. The Hilton Head Prep girls wound up in ninth place. Abby Kandel was the Dolphins' top girl, placing 25th in 22:12.
Never miss a local story.
"I thought they all ran well," Hilton Head Prep coach Liz Nash said. "Young team -- I only have one senior."
That senior, Taylor Calamari, placed 32nd in the boys race.

Class 3-A Lower State qualifier: Hilton Head Island High School had a strong effort in the qualifying meet at Sandhills Research Center in Columbia, as the Seahawks boys finished first -- helped by a first-place run from Jack Manesiotis -- and the girls came in second behind James Island.
Carley McGlinn placed second individually for the Hilton Head High girls, who put their top five runners in the top 20.
Manesiotis clocked a time of 16 minutes, 6 seconds for the win. He is working his way back into form after dealing with a stress reaction in his lower leg.
"He wasn't going all out, but he is coming back pretty nicely," Hilton Head coach Bill Wrightson said.
Sean McMahon (4th) and Colton Hennessey (5th) also placed in the top five for the Hilton Head boys, who expect to compete for a state title at next weekend's meet.
"I think Daniel is the team to beat, but we have a legitimate opportunity to do that," Wrightson said. "On the girls side, we're in the mix, I'd say, with three teams -- Eastside, Chapin and James Island."
The state meet will be Saturday, again at Sandhills Research Center. The Class 3-A girls run at 8:30 a.m., with the boys to follow at 9 a.m.
