Beaufort High 8, Colleton County 0: Sophomore Carson Gregory finished out the Beaufort High School baseball team's region schedule in style, throwing a no-hitter in an 8-0 win against Colleton County on Friday night.
Gregory (5-2) finished with eight strikeouts and two walks for the Eagles (16-7), who needed Summerville to knock off Ashley Ridge on Friday night to grab a share of the Region 8-AAAA championship.
Mitchell Stewart was 2 for 2 with an RBI, Tony Nolan was 1 for 4 with two RBIs, and Matt Thorpe had a pinch-hit, 2-run single in the win.
Pinewood Prep 6, Hilton Head Christian 1: JD Reichel drove in Caleb Workman with the lone run in Hilton Head Christian's loss at home.
Workman, Reese Dolyniuk and Lincoln Fuller each had a hit for the Eagles (10-7).
Losing pitcher Luke Higgs went three innings, striking out two.
Thomas Heyward Academy 1, Bluffton 0: Ashlie Layman threw a one-hitter and delivered the game-winning hit, a home run in the sixth inning, to avenge the Rebels' only loss of the season and hand Bluffton its first loss in the process.
Layman finished with four strikeouts and one walk for Thomas Heyward (17-1).
Andrea Daring and Caitlyn Cooler had the only other hits against Bluffton ace Courtney Smith, who finished with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Kim Kerby had the lone hit for the Bobcats (16-1), who will try to pay back the Rebels at 6 p.m. Monday at Hardeeville's Richard Gray Sports Complex. Area children wearing their uniforms to the game get in for $3.
Hilton Head High 5-5, Beaufort High 1-6: Arianna Tolerton hit a three-run homer and pitcher Whitney Halley had five strikeouts as the Seahawks took the first game, 5-1.
Carli Cline's home run off Halley in the second game gave Beaufort High a 6-5 win. Jenny Mullins got the win for the Eagles.
Tori Motchan had a two-run homer, and Haley Lewis was 2 for 2 with two runs scored for Hilton Head High (10-6) in the second game.
The Seahawks will start the Class 3-A playoffs on the road Thursday.
Hilton Head Island High 2, Cardinal Newman 1: Two late goals at the end of each half and outstanding defense helped the Seahawks score an impressive win in Columbia over one of the state's best teams.
"This is easily our signature win of the year, if not for the entire time I've been at the helm of our program," Hilton Head High coach Wayne Quinlan said.
Cardinal Newman (12-3), recently in the top 10 of the national Powerade Fab 50 rankings, took a 1-0 lead late in the first half. Chip Tremarelli answered for the Seahawks (9-3), scoring in final minute of first half to tie it 1-1.
With four minutes left in the second half, Ruben Romero put the Seahawks ahead for good.
Mike Ritterbeck made five saves, as the Seahawks' defense kept him from seeing much action.
Hilton Head High hosts Cane Bay at 7 p.m. Tuesday for senior night.
Battery Creek 1, Berkeley 0: Caleb Campbell put in a rebound off a corner kick by William Lopez in the first half for the game's only goal.
Miguel Mejia made seven saves for the shutout for Battery Creek (11-2-1 overall, 5-1 Region 7-AAA), which hosts Bluffton at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Hilton Head Prep 6, Northwood Academy 2: Aidan Hegarty scored three times to fuel the Dolphins' home win.
Logan Clark, Dylan Clark and Tervor Marbut also had goals for Hilton Head Prep.
Goalkeeper Zen Wiggins fought off back spasms to play the entire game for the winners. Defender Campbell Goss also provided strong minutes in the back.
The Eagles next host Beaufort Academy on Monday.

Berkeley 4, Battery Creek 2: Tori Hill scored a goal for the Dolphins, who play Tuesday at Bluffton.
Beaufort High 2, Ashley Ridge 0: Molly Murphy had both goals, and Carson Moore made 10 saves for the Eagles (6-9 overall, 5-0 Region 8-AAAA), who play at Wade Hampton on Tuesday.
Hilton Head Prep 8, Northwood Academy 0: Halie Parker scored four goals to help the Dolphins rebound from a loss earlier in the week to Pinewood Prep. Hannah Parker added two goals, and Amber Erkan and Caitlin Tardio also scored for Prep (8-4 overall, 5-4 SCISAA Region 3-AAA).
The Dolphins face Beaufort Academy at 4 p.m. Monday.
