The first-year Whale Branch boys tennis program picked up its first victory Thursday in its final region match of the season, shutting out Wade Hampton, 6-0.
The Warriors' lone senior, Josh Salters, got the sweep started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. No. 1 player Dustin Jagos finished out the region schedule undefeated, and he'll be participating in the state singles tournament. Jagos is 10-0 this season.
Whale Branch (1-9) will travel to Charleston on Monday to face Academic Magnet in a non-region match.

Hardeeville 1, Bamberg-Ehrhardt 0: The Hurricanes wrapped up the Region 5-A title for the second consecutive year behind Martin Sotelo's header in the 72nd minute, his 12th goal on the season.
Hardeeville (7-3) plays Tuesday at Charleston Math and Science in a nonregion contest.

Thomas Heyward 26, St. Andrew's 0, 3 innings: Ashlie Layman was 4 for 5 with two home runs and eight RBIs and Brielle Jungblut went 4 for 5 with three RBIs, including her first career over-the-fence home run, in the Rebels' three-inning thrashing of St. Andrew's.
Taylor Ernestine faced the minimum nine battters, allowing no hits or walks, striking out five. She also went 3 for 4 at the plate.
Caitlyn Cooler was 4 for 4 with four RBIs and Kayla Canavan was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Thomas Heyward (16-1) hosts Bluffton at 6:30 p.m. tonight. The Rebels' only loss was the season opener against the Bobcats. The two teams will play again at 6 p.m. Monday at the Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville.
Thomas Heyward 16, St. Andrew's 8: Seven batters had multiple hits for the Rebels as they improved to 5-0 in SCISAA Region 1-AA.
Starting pitcher Zack Newton got the win, striking out six in four innings. He also had two hits.
Ryan Day and Will Richardson led the Rebels' attack with three hits apiece. Evan Duncan was 2 for 4 with a home run, and Taylor Cowart, Bryan Lee Wade and Forrest Richardson also had two hits each for Thomas Heyward (11-7), which hosts Dorchester Academy at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Hilton Head Island High 147, Bluffton 169: The Seahawks ran away with a victory, led by Andrew Orischak and Brooks Moody, who both shot even-par 36. Troy Hoisington carded a 37 and Gavin Lindstrom had a 38 for Hilton Head High.
Bluffton was led by Wesley Long and Alec Weary, who had scores of 41.
Bluffton will host the Region 7-AAA meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at Island West. Hilton Head High, Berkeley and Cane Bay also will be competing. The top two teams advance to the Lower State meet.
