Kenny Conroy is back as an athletics director on Hilton Head Island.
Conroy, who spent five years in that role at Hilton Head Prep, is once again back in the position -- this time down the road at Hilton Head Christian Academy.
"I'm looking forward to the opportunity," he said. " ... It was something that I had done for years at Hilton Head Prep, as well as at Bible Baptist School. I look forward to getting back into the administrative role of the athletic department."
Conroy will succeed Tommy Lewis, who officially took over the position in the fall of 2005. Lewis will remain as coach of both the football team -- which captured the SCISAA Class 2-A championship last season -- and track team alongside his wife, Meggan Lewis.
"It's not my passion," Lewis said of being an athletics director. "It's not my strong suit, the administrative side of my job. My passion and my strengths are dealing with kids, coaching, teaching and mentoring."
It's been a busy year for Lewis, whose family adopted two children from Liberia last spring. He's hoping a less-demanding workload will allow him more time to focus on both his family and mentoring kids, he said.
"I enjoyed my job as AD," he said. "I felt like I did a good job over the last seven years. I think our athletics have grown, our student involvement has grown. We have more athletic offerings now at different levels. It's been a great seven years."
The workload will also be changing for Conroy. In addition to his newfound duties as athletics director, he'll remain the coach of the girls basketball team. However, Conroy will be relinquishing his duties as the boys head coach to Mac Tamminen.
Tamminen comes to the boys team after spending the last several seasons as coach of the girls junior varsity team.
"I think he'll do a great job," Conroy said. "He has a great relationship with the kids in the school and he's a very knowledgeable coach. He should be very successful."
