Whale Branch 71, Hardeeville 62: Leroy Perry piled up 30 points and 13 rebounds to help the Warriors open Region 5-A play with a victory.
Senior guard Eric Frazier added 14 points, four steals and four assists for Whale Branch (6-1, 1-0), and Stedmon James had eight points.

Wade Hampton 71, Battery Creek 69: The Red Devils scored on a putback and were fouled with nine seconds left to pull out the win at Battery Creek.
Justice Oliver took the ball the length of the court on the Dolphins' ensuing possession, but his floater fell short. Oliver led Battery Creek (2-7) with 26 points.
Tyrone Kelson and Tavon Jennette added nine apiece for the Dolphins, who take on Calvary on Friday in the opening round of the Christmas Classic in Savannah.
Cory Magwood had 24 points to lead Wade Hampton.
Memorial Day 85, Hilton Head Prep 46: The Dolphins had three players score in double figures, but it wasn't nearly enough to defeat a talented, and undefeated, Memorial Day squad in Savannah.
Shaun Topper had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Prep (1-5). John Sheehan added 12 points, four assists and three steals, and Randy Young had 10 points and eight rebounds. Logan Clark chipped in with four points and four assists for the Dolphins, who host Thomas Heyward on Friday night in the opening round of the annual RET Thomas Memorial Holiday Tournament.
Battery Creek 37, Wade Hampton 29: Diamon Smalls scored 11 points and Alisha Varela added 10 as the Dolphins notched their first win of the season. Daisja Cannon contributed nine points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals for Battery Creek (1-5), which is off until the opening round of Whale Branch's holiday tournament, Dec. 27.
Kylie Godley led Wade Hampton with eight points.
Whale Branch 58, Hardeeville 48: Junior forward S'nitra Mack poured in 21 points to spark the Warriors in their region opener.
Whale Branch (2-3) travels to Allendale-Fairfax on Friday.
Hilton Head Prep 39, Memorial Day 24: The Dolphins ended their season-opening losing streak in Savannah, using sturdy defense to pick up their first victory.
Brooke Churchich had 12 points and six rebounds to lead Prep (1-6), and Maggie Gasser added nine points, eight rebounds and four steals. Allie Jaccard chipped in with five points.
"It was a good win," said first-year Dolphins coach Tara Dakolios. "They played pretty good defense."
Brittany Griffin scored eight points to lead Memorial Day.
Hilton Head Prep opens play in its annual RET Thomas Memorial Holiday Tournament at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Thomas Heyward.
Tri-match at Whale Branch: Battery Creek won a pair of duals Tuesday night at Whale Branch, defeating Burke 76-6 and Whale Branch 51-38. Whale Branch defeated Burke 66-16 in the other dual.
In the Dolphins' victory over the Warriors, weight class winners for Battery Creek included Chris Bockelman (113), Josh Greene (138), David Ratliff (Hwt), Javon Livingston (195) and Josh Knight (220).
For the Warriors, Dan Makowski (182), Javon Gardner (120), Devante Washington (126) and Levar Washington (132) won by pins.
Winners for the Warriors against Burke included Thomas Mooney (106), Michael Smalls (138), Trey Nelson (182) and Jerod Sanders (220).
Battery Creek is scheduled to wrestle in Lugoff-Elgin's holiday tournament Friday and Saturday. Whale Branch wrestles Thursday at Stall.
Bluffton 45, South Effingham (Ga.) 33: The Bobcats strung together three pins late in the dual to put away the road victory.
The match was tied at 27 with four weight classes remaining when Nick Stead, Lloyd Williams and Levi Joly recorded consecutive first-period pins at the lower weights to seal it. The Bobcats forfeited the final match.
Austin Farmer, Johnny Kautter, Mike Meyerink and Kyle Waddell also had pins for Bluffton (2-0), which wrestles in a tournament at Lugoff-Elgin on Friday and Saturday.

Hilton Head High splits two: The Seahawks wrestled A.C. Flora and White Knoll at Bamberg-Ehrhardt, defeating A.C. Flora 70-12 and falling to Class 4-A powerhouse White Knoll 58-6.
AC Flora forfeited five matches against the Seahawks. Nick Tennison and J.C. Graham won with pins, and Nick Bautista scored a major decision at 220 pounds.
Against White Knoll, Bautista won a decision at 195, and David Waddell won by decision at 106 for the Seahawks (2-2), who wrestle at Lugoff-Elgin's tournament this weekend.
Beaufort High 51, James Island 28: The visiting Eagles cruised to a 51-28 victory over James Island with wins in nine weight classes.
Forrest Kimbrel opened the match for Beaufort High with a pin at 145 pounds. Other winners by pin for the Eagles were Tommy Collins (120), Clayton Wynn (152), Trey Arant (160), JaClay Mixon (170), Thyrik Legree (182), Clint Wright (195) and Malik Maldonado (220). Jake Sharp (106) was an 11-7 winner by decision for Beaufort High.
The Eagles (3-0) compete in a tournament Saturday at Cane Bay.
