VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY
Region 7-AAA meet: The Hilton Head High cross country teams dominated the Region 7-AAA meet at Cane Bay, with the Seahawk girls posting a perfect score of 15 and the boys narrowly missing with a 17.
Faith Lifer, Carley McGlinn, Ciara McMahon, Savannah Schepp and Esther Anderson took the top five spots for Hilton Head High's girls, earning all-region honors in the process.
Bluffton's girls finished second, led by all-region runner Scottie House, who placed sixth. Alexis Miller was the top runner for Battery Creek -- which finished fourth in the team standings -- placing 16th.
Alex Couch led the way for Hilton Head High's boys, finishing just ahead of teammate Jack Manesiotis to win the race. Colton Hennessey was third, Sam Beattie was fifth and Noa Pagatpatan was sixth. All earned all-region honors.
Bluffton's Joshua Tierney broke up the Hilton Head High boys, placing fourth to earn an all-region spot. Bluffton's Demetrius Smalls grabbed the last all-region selection, finishing seventh.
Erik Barbosa had a top-10 finish for Battery Creek, taking ninth with a time of 18 minutes, 38 seconds. The Dolphins finished fifth out of six teams on the boys side.
The Class 3-A teams run in the Lower State qualifier a week from Saturday in Columbia.

Region 8-AAAA meet: Beaufort High's girls placed third and the boys squad finished fourth at Wednesday's region meet.
Madison Maddox led the way for Beaufort, earning an all-region honor by placing ninth in the girls race with a time of 22 minutes, 58 seconds.
Brandon Pratt was Beaufort's top boy, finishing 11th.
The Eagles are scheduled to run again at the Oct. 29 Lower State qualifier at at John's Isand.

SCISAA Region 3-AAA meet: Hilton Head Prep's Sarah Garratt was the region champion, finishing first in the girls race in Charleston with a time of 19 minutes, 25 seconds. Her victory helped the Dolphins take third in the girls team standings.
Hilton Head Prep's boys also took third place, led by Collins Richardson (18:48) and Franklyn Bakala (18:49).
Ashley Hall won the girls team title, while Porter-Gaud won the boys side.
Hilton Head Prep's runners now prepare for the SCISAA state meet, which will be held Oct. 29 at Heathwood Hall in Columbia.

Branchville 3, Whale Branch 1: The Warriors fell to Branchville, which earned Region 5's top seed for the Class 1-A playoffs. Branchville won by scores of 25-15, 25-9, 18-25 and 25-13.
Deborah Fields led the Warriors (13-1 region) with 11 kills. Vanessa Scott -- who was an all-state selection -- finished with four aces and nine kills. Jamie Whalen added four kills, Kenyada Moultrie had three kills and two aces, and Danielle Scott came up with three digs. Monique Bing set for 27 assists.
Vanessa Scott, Whalen, Fields and Bing were named all-region for the Warriors, who open the playoffs at home at 6 p.m. Monday against an opponent to be determined.
