Hilton Head Prep 3, Hilton Head Christian 0: Behind an all-around performance from Liz Buterbaugh, the Dolphins swept their rival in the region match, 25-12, 25-11, 25-13.
Buterbaugh had 14 kills, four blocks, six digs and a pair of aces. Abby Miles added seven kills and four digs, and Halie Parker contributed six kills and five digs. Mackenzie Brown was perfect from the service line in 24 tries and had three aces. Brooke Churchich had 28 assists and five kills.
Kelly Humes had five kills and six digs in the loss for the Eagles, who host Ashley Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Andy Anderson and Lauren Davis chipped in with four kills and three digs each, and Stevie DeSimone added two aces.
Prep (11-8) hosts Hilton Head High at 5:45 p.m. Monday.
Bluffton High School: The Bobcats swept a tri-match at Lake Marion, which also included Berkeley. In their region opener, Bluffton defeated Berkeley 25-6, 25-16 before breezing past Lake Marion 25-5, 25-10.
Abby Roulston and Mackenzie Cooler had 12 kills each in the matches, with Cooler also mixing in seven assists. Dani Bothe added 10 kills.
Grace Collins paced the Bobcats with 28 assists. Jordan Franklin had five kills.
The Bobcats (15-5, 2-0 Region 7-AAA) travel to Atlanta for the Lovett School Invitational Tournament today and Saturday.
Tri-match at Whale Branch: The Warriors swept Ridgeland and Estill in a region tri-match. Whale Branch defeated Estill 25-10, 25-11 and Ridgeland 25-11, 25-11.
Vanessa Scott, Maddie Summerill and Deborah Fields had seven aces each, with Fields adding 12 kills and Scott adding eight. Jamie Whalen contributed five aces and six kills, and Nicole Fulton had four aces and three kills. Monique Bing led the Warriors with 30 assists while pitching in six aces.
Whale Branch (5-0) travels to Hilton Head High on Tuesday.
Tri-match at Hilton Head High: The host Seahawks lost to Savannah Christian Prep (20-25, 25-10, 25-22) but bounced back to defeat region foe Battery Creek (25-17, 25-16) and remain undefeated in region play.
Battery Creek also lost to Savannah Christian Prep (25-8, 25-14).
Cierra Davis had 14 kills to pace the Seahawks (3-3 overall, 3-0 Region 7-AAA). Hannah Edelman led with 20 assists, and Taylor Standen had seven aces.
Sarah Rice had three aces and two kills for Battery Creek. Tina Kwok had three digs, and Sharea Walls and Bre Jackson added two kills each.
Hilton Head High travels to Hilton Head Prep on Monday.
First Baptist 3, Thomas Heyward 0: Thomas Heyward lost the road match, only its second loss in 11 matches this season. First Baptist prevailed 26-24, 25-18, 25-8.
The Rebels (9-2, 3-2 SCISAA 2-AA) return home for a 5 p.m. match Tuesday against Bible Baptist.
VARSITY GIRLS GOLF
Pinewood Prep 177, Hilton Head Christian 199: Anna Lesemann Eddy took home medalist honors for the second straight week, but the Eagles lost the match at Crescent Point Golf Club in Bluffton. Jamie Hubbard (50), Maddy Bauer (53) and Jordan Foster (60) rounded out the Eagles lineup. Hilton Head Christian returns to action next Tuesday, when it travels to Pinewood Prep for a tri-match that also includes Ashley Hall.
