The Whale Branch Warriors showed resiliency on the road Friday night in Hollywood, three times rallying from deficits before eventually taking the lead for good on Andre Watson's 8-yard touchdown run in the middle of the fourth quarter to open the 2011 season with a 29-19 victory.
Baptist Hill got on the board first, going up 7-0 in the first quarter. Whale Branch returner Josh Fields quickly answered, taking back the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a score to tie it.
Watson had scoring tosses of 20 and 30 yards to Dee Delaney, tying up the game in the second and third quarters. Watson then put the Warriors up for good with his 8-yard run, and the Warriors' defense got a quarterback sack for a safety later in the quarter to go up by the final margin of 10 points.
The Warriors (1-0) play their home opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday, hosting Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.
