Former Beaufort High School star Ron Parker has signed a free-agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks, the team confirmed on its website Tuesday afternoon.
Following the end of the NFL lockout, Tuesday was the first day undrafted free agents could sign with NFL teams.
Parker played free safety at Newberry College, but he is listed as a cornerback in a post on the Seahawks' website announcing the signing.
Parker was one of the most honored players in Newberry history, earning 10 All-America selections from various organizations. After his senior season in 2010, he was named a first-team All-American by D2Football.com and Don Hansen's Football Gazette, a second-team All-American by Daktronics and a third-team Little All-American by the Associated Press.
Never miss a local story.
In his senior season, Parker led the South Atlantic Conference in interceptions and fumble recoveries and made 59 tackles. As a junior in 2009, he was named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
