Beaufort High athletes qualified for next week's state meet in nine different individual events and all three relays at Saturday's Class 4-A state qualifying meet at Spring Valley High School in Columbia.
Madeline Aune won the pole vault and Deja Jackson placed second in the shot put and also qualified in the discus to lead the Eagles girls. Beaufort High's girls also took second in the 4x100 relay.
On the boys' side, Akeem Smalls qualified in the 200 and 400 meters, and he was part of the Eagles' qualifying 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Desmond Howard and Randy Thomas each qualified in one individual event and ran on two relays.
The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Spring Valley High School.

Battery Creek's boys qualified in all three relays, and Hilton Head High took second in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

Class 1-A Lower State qualifier: The Whale Branch High School boys finished fourth and qualified for the state meet in seven individual events to lead the local contingent in the meet at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
Led by Devonta' Glover and Devonta' Alston, who qualified in two events apiece, the Warriors scored 60 points, 27.5 behind champion Allendale-Fairfax.
Ridgeland athletes qualified in four boys events and two girls events, and the Jaguars finished fifth in the boys standings and tied for seventh in the girls standings. Hardeeville qualified in four boys events and two girls events, finishing 10th among boys teams and tying for seventh among girls teams.

Hilton Head Prep 8-9, Pinewood Prep 3-15: The Hilton Head Prep baseball team split two games at Pinewood Prep on Saturday in Summerville, forcing a decisive third game today in their SCISAA Class 3-A second-round series.
Pitcher Patrick Andrews notched his 10th win of the season in the Dolphins' 8-3 victory in the first game, which was continued from Friday's rainout. Andrews had nine strikeouts while going the distance.
Dylan Powell provided two home runs and three RBIs for Prep, which hit five home runs in the win. John Sheehan was 2 for 4 with a home run and two runs scored, Matt Layman was 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs, and Andrews was 1 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs.
Powell was at it again in the second game, hitting two more homers and driving in four runs, but the Dolphins dropped the nightcap 15-9. Powell has hit six home runs in Prep's four playoff games.
Patrick Briody was 1 for 3 with three runs scored for the Dolphins (15-9), who host Pinewood Prep at 3:30 p.m. today with a trip to the next round on the line. The winner will travel to Wilson Hall on Tuesday for the first game of the semifinals.
