Judy Slow started playing volleyball two years ago to escape boredom.
She still considers herself a gymnast at heart, but when she moved to Hilton Head High, she noticed gymnastics wasn't offered. Rather than take an extended break from sports, Slow began to attend summer volleyball camps with the hope of making the Seahawks varsity team in her first season.
Two years later, Slow has a new passion and a college scholarship. The Seahawks outside hitter signed a letter of intent Monday to attend Lander University, where she will play volleyball next fall.
"I like that I'm still learning the game, because I don't think I'll ever get worn out on it," Slow said. "I feel like with the help of a college coach, hopefully there's still a lot of room for me to get better."
Never miss a local story.
Slow made an impact in her brief, two-year high school career. She led the Seahawks in kills last fall and helped them reach the Class 3-A state championship game. She was also named to the Class 3-A all-state team.
