Hilton Head Christian 13, St. Andrew's 5 (6 inn.): The Eagles opened their season with a win in a game that was shortened by darkness.
Andrew Halley started and earned the victory, striking out five in three innings. He also went 1 for 4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Lincoln Fuller led the Eagles' offense, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Kevin Campbell reached base in all five of his plate appearances, scoring two runs. Alex Cooler was 1 for 1 with an RBI, and made some strong plays at second base, according to coach Danny Morgan.
The Eagles (1-0) play at Bluffton at 6 p.m. Monday.
VARSITY BOYS LACROSSE
Bluffton 9, Socastee 7: Taylor McDonnell scored five goals and Britton Baker added three as the Bobcats earned their first victory of the season.
Anthony Vecchio tacked on a goal and an assist for the Bobcats (1-4), and goalie T.J. Ratzel registered 17 saves. Adam Moody had two assists, and Ricky Ramirez and Tyler Frey each had one assist for Bluffton, which hosts Wando at 3:30 p.m. today.
Savannah 9, Beaufort 8 (2OT): The Beaufort Lacrosse Club lost a heart-breaker in its home opener Thursday, falling in double overtime to the Savannah Lacrosse Club.
Eight different players scored goals for Beaufort -- Cooper McCormick, Mckie Cherry, Eric Deforge, Kyron Beale, Zach Everidge, Son Cannon, Leif Koppernaes and Finn Koppernaes.
Goalkeeper David Flores made 10 saves.
Beaufort's next game is at Benedictine Military at 1 p.m. Saturday.
