Whale Branch 70, Branchville 35: Stedmon James scored 17 points to lead a balanced effort for Whale Branch on Friday night, and the Warriors coasted to a 70-35 win over Branchville.
The victory improved the Warriors to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in Region 5-A.
Leroy Perry helped the Warriors' cause with 10 points and eight rebounds, and Parish Magwood added eight points and nine rebounds. Eric Frazier finished with eight points and Josh Fields had five points, six assists and three steals for Whale Branch, which plays at Estill on Tuesday.

Chris Bethea had a game-high 18 points for Branchville.
Hardeeville 46, Bamberg-Ehrhardt 33: The Hurricanes picked up their second Region 5-A win of the season behind 12 points and six rebounds from Donald Scott.
Travon Harris was also in double figures with 11 points. Brandon Blackshear scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds.
The Hurricanes (3-9, 2-2) host Bluffton tonight at 7:30 p.m.
First Baptist 80, Thomas Heyward 38: Nate Jenkins scored 22 points to lead First Baptist to the win in Ridgeland.
Don Simmons had nine points and six rebounds, and JA Malphrus also had nine points for Thomas Heyward (6-4).
J.D. Tuten and Joe Laycock added seven points apiece for the Rebels and Logan Mock scored five. Ryan Day had two assists for Thomas Heyward, which hosts Dorchester Academy on Monday.
Beaufort Academy 75, Bible Baptist 66: Five players scored in double figures to help Beaufort Academy pull out a hard-fought win.
Preston Suber led the way for the Eagles with 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Bennett Fultz posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jack Griffith added 17 points, five assists and three steals, and Michael Bible and Leif Koppernaes had 11 points apiece.
Keynnard Campbell scored 25 points, and Marcus Brown added 22 for Bible Baptist.
Beaufort Academy (4-6 overall, 3-2 in SCISAA Region 1-AA) faces Charleston Collegiate at home in another region game Tuesday.
VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL
Whale Branch 67, Branchville 30: S'Nitra Mack had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the Warriors (3-7 overall, 2-2 Region 5-A) to a key region victory. Deborah Fields added 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, and Kenyada Moultrie had 15 points for Whale Branch.
Chenise Stokes scored 14 points to lead Branchville.
The Warriors play another region game at Estill on Tuesday.
Thomas Heyward 74, First Baptist 13: Kayla Canavan and Jamie Malphrus posted double-doubles and Ashlie Layman and Chandler Cook also scored in double digits, as the Rebels (9-3 overall, 1-0 in SCISAA Region 1-AA) rolled to an easy victory.
Canavan had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Malphrus scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Layman added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Cook scored 11. Caitlyn Cooler had eight assists and six steals for the Rebels, who had 11 players score.
Thomas Heyward is back home Monday for a non-region game against Dorchester Academy.
Bible Baptist 63, Beaufort Academy 16: The defending SCISAA Class 2-A champions cruised over an Eagles squad playing without star Miranda Weslake, who missed the game while playing in a soccer tournament.
Casey Kahn and Megan Debardelaben had five points each for Beaufort Academy. Kahn also grabbed 14 rebounds.
The Eagles (6-5) next host Charleston Collegiate on Tuesday.
Coach Trap Memorial Tournament: Hilton Head High won its pool with a 2-0 record, and Beaufort High and Battery Creek each split their two matches on the first day of the Coach Trap Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Battery Creek.
The Seahawks beat Whale Branch 72-6 and edged Bamberg-Ehrhardt 39-38 to claim Pool C. The host Dolphins blew out Colleton County 54-18 but lost to Eastside 55-15 in Pool B, while Beaufort High beat St. James 42-23 and lost to West-Oak 55-18 in Pool A.
West-Oak won Pool A, and Eastside claimed Pool B.
The tournament continues with challenge matches at 10 a.m. today, followed by first-round matches at 11:30 a.m.
