Carl Pettersson will defend his title at the 45th annual RBC Heritage held April 15-21 at the famed Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.
He will be joined by six other past champions who are making early commitments to the PGA Tour event -- two-time champions Stewart Cink and Boo Weekley, plus Brandt Snedeker, Jim Furyk, Glen Day and Justin Leonard.
The entire group will be shooting for the top prize of $1,044,000 from a purse of $5,800,000.
Pettersson has won five times on the PGA Tour, the most recent coming at last year's Heritage. He beat Zach Johnson by five strokes after carding three birdies on the first five holes.
Never miss a local story.
The win tied Pettersson with Jesper Parnevik for most wins on the PGA Tour by a Swedish player. Pettersson moved to Greensboro, N.C., with his family in high school and later attended N.C. State. He now lives in Raleigh, N.C., and is a U.S. citizen.
Snedeker won twice in 2012, first at the Farmers Insurance Open and then at the Tour Championship. In 2011, he fired a final round 7-under-par 64 at Harbour Town to tie Luke Donald and then went on to defeat him in a playoff.
Furyk, the 2010 winner of the tartan jacket, and 1999 champion Day also won in playoffs.
Cink, a former British Open champion, captured the Heritage in 2000 and 2004. Weekley is the last to win back-to-back titles, in 2007 and 2008. Leonard won at Harbour Town in 2002.
RBC Heritage is the only PGA Tour event in South Carolina and has been played at Harbour Town since 1969.
The Heritage Classic Foundation, the general tournament sponsor, distributes the proceeds from the tournament to hundreds of nonprofit organizations. Since it was founded as a 501 (c)(3) in 1987, the Foundation has donated more than $23.5 million to people in need.
