This year's RBC Heritage will be an event without Love.
Davis Love III, that is.
Tournament officials announced Monday morning that the five-time champion had withdrawn and said no reason was given.
Until the announcement of his commitment this past Friday by the tournament, his appearance at Harbour Town had been in serious doubt and tournament officials said his commitment had been a surprise.
Love, who played 26 consecutive Heritages beginning in 1986, cracked a rib at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill last month, forcing him to withdraw before his final round and miss the Shell Houston Open the next week, as well.
The Sea Island, Ga., native has won 20 times on the PGA Tour, including five Heritage victories in 1987, 1991, 1992, 1998 and 2003. He has earned more than $2.5 million at Harbour Town.
Love's withdrawal means there are eight former Heritage champions in this year's field, including the winners of 10 of the past 14 tournaments.
