Reed Weatherford had a variation of the same answer for everyone who came in and commented on his low number posted at Fripp Island's Ocean Point Golf Links.
The Sanctuary Club professional shot 4-under-par 68 to open the Beaufort City Championship and now heads to his home course for the final round -- a deviation from recent years from no real advantage, Weatherford said.
He leads Rob Simmons and Patrick Mitchell by a shot. Benji Gecy also landed in the final group with a 1-under 71.
Never miss a local story.
"A one-shot lead with those guys is nothing," Weatherford said. "It's a whole new ballgame on that golf course."
Weatherford made five birdies. He bogeyed the 17th and failed to birdie the short par-5 18th, otherwise his lead might have been more comfortable.
"He made everything," said Fripp Island professional Char Cormier, who played with Weatherford in the first group. "It was unbelievable."
Weatherford said he has not played much while dealing with a compressed disc in his lower back. But he had enough to get around an Ocean Point layout measuring only about 6,000.
The Sanctuary pro said his course should play about 6,600 yards on Sunday to decide the championship. The defending champion Weatherford is up against a couple other past champions in Mitchell and Simmons.
"I'm going to have to be on my best to have a shot," said Mitchell, who played golf at Presbyterian College. "We've played a lot of golf together. We haven't played a while -- all three of us have young kids and other stuff -- so it will be nice to get together and play again."
The final group will tee off at 10:20 a.m. on the Cat Island course, which Weatherford said is in about the best shape he has seen it after all the recent rain.
The local pros decided to switch up the format this year after Fripp Island's Point and Ocean Creek courses hosted both rounds in recent years.
Weatherford said he hit only one driver, two 3-woods and a hyrbid off the tee Saturday. He hit irons off the remaining tees to keep the ball in play.
He expects a different style of play from the field Sunday. And he dismissed any home-course advantage.
"You can take that with a grain of salt," he said. "Those guys have played that golf course as much as I have."
