Winthrop University golfer Bradley Kauffman defeated stroke-play qualifying medalist Brian Langley in impressive fashion Sunday morning in the championship match of the Carolinas Golf Association's 42nd S.C. Amateur Match Play Championship at the Seabrook Island Club.
Kauffman defeated the former USC Beaufort All-American by a 7-and-5 margin to win his first CGA championship. The rising sophomore and Greer native never lost a hole. He won the fourth hole with a par then won five holes in a row starting on No. 7, doing it with four pars and a bogey.
The 12th hole was halved with pars, and Kauffman clinched the match with a conceded birdie on No. 13.
Bluffton's Langley was trying to go from stroke-play medalist to champion for the first time since Hilton Head Island High teacher and Colleton River Plantation resident Todd White pulled the double in 2010.
Never miss a local story.
Langley, who will be turning pro at the end of the year, just said he ran out of steam at the end.
"I had grinded all week in my matches and got three down today and just couldn't recover," Langley said.
Kauffman's win earned him an exemption into the 2014 Carolinas Amateur Championship that will be played July 10-13 at the Greenville Country Club's Chanticleer Course.

Inman's Trevor Phillips and Greenville's Carly Burkhardt claimed their respective titles at the 19th Annual Jimmy Self Championship at Greenwood Country Club.
Phillips who won this championship in 2012, separated himself from the field after nine holes into the second round with a five under 31 and put it in cruise control on the back nine. The Boiling Springs golfer picked up momentum as he heads to the AJGA FootJoy Invitational, holding off Hilton Head Island resident Will Miles by four strokes.
Hilton Head Christian Academy golfer Bryson Nimmer of Bluffton, last year's champion, and Sumter's Christian Salzer tied for third.
Burkhardt claimed her first SCJGA major victory with a 2-over-par total of 146 to edge out Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill by two strokes.
