Chapin’s Wesley Bryan has earned an invitation to his first major -- the 2017 U.S. Open Championship, to be played June 15-18 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis.
Bryan is among the 27 golfers who earned exemptions by ranking in the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) as of Monday. These exemptions bring the number of fully exempt players to 78.
Other players with South Carolina connections who earned full exemptions through the current Official World Golf Ranking were Bill Haas (Greer) and Russell Henley (Charleston).
Already in the field were Dustin Johnson (Irmo), the defending champion; Lucas Glover (Greenville), also a former champion; Kevin Kisner (Aiken) and William McGirt (Spartanburg).
Bryan picked up his first PGA Tour win in the RBC Heritage in April and has already qualified for the 2018 Masters. He has won $2,005,885 and ranks 20th on the money won list.
