Former USC Beaufort All-American Brian Langley of Bluffton held on to win medalist honors after the second-round of stroke-play qualifying for the Carolinas Golf Association's 42nd South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship hosted by the Seabrook Island Club.
Langley defeated Rock Hill's Alex Finke in a playoff with a par on No. 18. Langley held a two-stroke lead after his 2-under 70 on Day 1, but slipped with a a 5-over 77 on Day 2, just good enough to stay even with Finke on the par-72, 6,765-yard Ocean Winds Course.
The field was cut to the low 32 players for match play. The cut line fell at 17-over-par 161. Bluffton's Wesley Long shot a pair of 78s to tie for 17th and make the match play field.
Also making the cute were, Bluffton's J.D. Hoft (81-78--159) and Ridgeland's Christopher Finke (80-79--159), who tied for 25th.

Bluffton resident and International Junior Golf Academy product Ben Dietrich shot a 2-over 72 on Thursday to stand in a tie for fourth at 2 under par after the second round of the 39th Palmetto Amateur at the historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken.
The South Carolina freshman had been tied for second after Wednesday's 66. His Gamecocks teammate and 2011 Junior Heritage winner Matthew NeSmith is tied for ninth at even-par 140.
Will Long of Gastonia, N.C., leads at 7-under 133.
Hilton Head Island High teacher and Colleton River Plantation resident Todd White is tied for 27th after his 1-over 71 put him at 4 over for the event.
Hilton Head Christian graduate J.D. Lehman, now at Louisville, is tied for 77th at 13 over after a 9-over 79 on Thursday, while Beaufort High golfer Josh Fickes is tied for 89th at 17 over after a 6-over 76.
The 72-hole tournament runs through Saturday. The 99-player field is made up of golfers from the top 200 in the World Amateur Rankings, the top 20 in the 2013 Palmetto Amateur and past Palmetto Amateur Champions.
