Thomas University carded a team score of 292 on a tough track at Savannah Quarters Country Club to grab the first-round lead Sunday at the Sun Conference Men's Golf Championship in Pooler, Ga.
The 24th-ranked Night Hawks have a four-shot cushion over Embry-Riddle, while 16th-ranked Northwood (297) is third followed by Warner (298) and Southeastern (299) on a crowded leaderboard. No. 10 Webber International, No. 9 Johnson & Wales and SCAD Savannah are tied for sixth at 300, followed by USCB at 310 and Ave Maria at 328.
Embry-Riddle's Sneh Patel (69) has the individual lead by two shots over USCB's Chandler McDonald and Southeastern's J.D. Cobb. Seven players are tied for fourth at even-par 72.
McDonald paced the 13th-ranked Sand Sharks as the junior fired a 1-under 35 on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back. Senior Brian Langley (79) and sophomore Brad Curren (79) are tied for 39th, followed by junior Chandler Vilcheck (81) in a tie for 46th and freshman Alan Cooke (83) in a tie for 48th.
