The USC Beaufort women's golf team finished off a runner-up performance Sunday at the Sun Conference Championship at Lake Wales (Fla.) Country Club.
Behind junior Samantha O'Donnell of Hilton Head Island, the 12th-ranked Sand Sharks posted a team score of 325 in the final round to finish the 54-hole event at 964.
Top-ranked SCAD Savannah won the team title at 950, as teammates Alazne Urizar (222) and Sofia Molinaro (230) finished first and second in the individual standings. USCB finished eight shots clear of No. 5 Northwood (Fla.) and 15 ahead of No. 9 Embry-Riddle (Fla.).
O'Donnell (81-79-79--239) posted the team's low round of the day to tie for fifth, and she was named to the All-Conference and All-Academic teams.
Junior Tori DeGroodt (79-77-84--240) and senior Kendra Collins (78-81-81--240) tied for eighth, and sophomore Lina Sekerkova (82-82-81--245) finished 11th. Sophomore Hayley Miller (99-91-102--292) finished 39th.
The Sand Sharks now await the announcement of the field for the NAIA National Championships, which will be held May 20-23 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
Embry-Riddle's Heather Wiquist, a Bluffton High School product, was named the Sun Conference's Champion of Character Award winner.
