SAVANNAH -- The University of South Carolina Beaufort track and field team claimed seven individual titles and set four school records Wednesday at the Tiger Twilight meet at Savannah State.
Four Sand Sharks set school marks while winning their events -- Melissa Carder in the women's 1,500 meters (5:02.05), Joyce Miller in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:10.98), Taylor Keen in the women's hammer throw (122-7) and Shakil Gause in the men's shot put (45-2).
The other USCB runners to claim individual crowns were Ty'Chelle Freeman in the women's shot put (41-7), Nic O'Neill in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:09.56) and Joshua Roper in the men's hammer throw (83-10).
The Sand Sharks will split the squad for their next competition, traveling to Greenville for the Blue Shoes Invitational and Conway for the Chanticleer Invitational on April 12 for their final tune-up before the Sun Conference Championships on April 21-22 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
