For the eighth time in the past three seasons, the USC Beaufort softball team swept the weekly Sun Conference honors, the league announced Monday.
Junior Kristy Cook was named the Pitcher of the Week and junior Mariaha Sanborn earned Player of the Week honors in voting by the league's sports information directors.
It's the eighth Pitcher of the Week award for Cook, who won the honor four times as a freshman in 2012 and three times last season. After missing the previous weekend's tournament because of illness, the reigning Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year returned in top form at the NAIA Southern Challenge, picking up two wins and a save.
She pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win in a 5-3 victory over Mobile, gave up one hit over three innings to beat Truett-McConnell and held Brewton-Parker to one run over three innings for her first save of the season. Cook also pitched two scoreless frames in relief in a loss to Thomas, totaling one run and six hits allowed in 10 2/3 innings for the tournament.
It's the second Player of the Week award of Sanborn's career. She also won once as a freshman in 2012.
Sanborn had a huge weekend at the plate, going 9 for 13 with five doubles, a home run, five runs scored and six RBIs in four games at the NAIA Southern Challenge. She recorded two four-hit games -- matching the single-game school record -- going 4-for-4 with a double, a homer and four RBIs in a rout of Truett-McConnell and going 4-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI in a loss to Thomas.
The 12th-ranked Sand Sharks (8-2) play two home doubleheaders this week, hosting Montreat (N.C.) at 5 p.m. Friday and taking on Virginia Intermont at 1 p.m. Sunday.
