The USC Beaufort baseball team will look to rebound from a weekend sweep at the hands of Sun Conference rival Embry-Riddle when it hosts NCAA Division II Benedict for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday at Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville.
The Sand Sharks (4-4) dropped three games in Daytona Beach, Fla. to fall back to .500 on the season after a 4-1 start at home.
USCB has been led at the plate this season by senior outfielder Blake Cilwick and junior shortstop Ashly Morris.
Cilwick is hitting .394 and leads the team in hits (13), runs (7), doubles (5), total bases (18) and RBIs (8). Morris, hitting .333, has six RBIs in eight games.
On the mound, Beaufort High product Junior Delatorre, a junior right-hander, is emerging as the Sand Sharks' top starter. In three starts spanning 19 innings, Delatorre (1-0) has given up just two unearned runs and has held opponents to a .185 batting average.
Benedict (0-2) has not played in more than a week. The Tigers are hitting just .208 as a team, but they have turned eight double plays in the field.
