The USC Beaufort track and field team kicked off its indoor season with two female athletes claiming individual titles at the Gamecock Indoor Open on Wednesday.
Freshman Jaime Thomas had the best showing of the day, winning the 800 meters with a time of 2:38.58 and helping the Sand Sharks take third place in the 4x400 relay along with Claire Kennedy, Pamela Robinson and Meleah Powers.
Robinson earned the other title for the Sand Sharks, winning the 400 meters with a time of 1:09.71. Rachelle Toth finished second in 1:13.44.
On the men's side, Chase Rhodus placed second in the mile in 5:11.91 and thrower Josh Roper had a solid day, finishing fifth in the shot put (43-3) and sixth in the weight throw (36-10.5).
The Sand Sharks are back in action Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Challenge in Daytona Beach, Fla.
