SPARTANBURG -- The results were familiar for the University of South Carolina Beaufort women's golf team on Tuesday at the Converse Fall Invitational, as senior Kendra Collins tied for first place and led the Sand Sharks to a second-place team finish for the second consecutive event.
The Sand Sharks finished at 643, eight shots behind the host Valkyries. Collins followed her opening-round 76 with a 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday to finish in a tie with Converse's Ansley Vaughan, but the senior from Bluffton won the individual title on a scorecard playoff.
USCB's Samantha O'Donnell (77-81) had another solid tournament, tying for fourth, and Tori DeGroodt (84-78) tied for eighth for her second straight top-10 finish. Lindsey Mapes (86-86) tied for 15th and Hayley Miller (89-89) was 20th.
The Sand Sharks are back in action Sunday and Monday, playing at the Charleston Southern Wendy's Invitational at Rivertowne Country Club.
USC Beaufort men climb into tie for eighth
VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The USCB men's golf team rebounded with a strong round Tuesday to move up three spots on the final day of the Thomas University Fall Invitational at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
The Sand Sharks' team score of 289 on Tuesday matched the second-best score of the day and helped USCB move up into a tie for eighth with the host team. Brad Curren and Brian Langley led the charge with rounds of 2-under-par 70 and Alan Cooke carded an even-par 72.
USCB's two-day total of 591 was only 12 shots behind champion Florida A&M.
Curren (74-70--144) led the Sand Sharks, tying for 11th, followed by Cooke (76-72--148) in a tie for 21st..
The Sand Sharks return to action Oct. 14-15 in Hallandale, Fla.
