USC Beaufort's All-Sun Conference middle infield mates, C.J. Browder and Katie Rietkovich, have informed the school they intend to transfer, according to Sand Sharks athletics director Quin Monahan.
USCB announced earlier this month that head softball coach Ty Rietkovich, Katie's father, would not return next season.
Monahan said that Browder and Rietkovich are the only players who have indicated they would transfer. Both are juniors. Monahan also said that while all recruits for this year and next have been informed of the coaching change, none have backed off their commitments.
Browder was named an NAIA All-American by numerous outlets after hitting .491 with 19 home runs, 69 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. Rietkovich hit .360 with 13 homers, 34 RBIs and 12 steals.
Never miss a local story.
Ty Rietkovich led the Sand Sharks to the Sun Conference regular season and tournament championships and the NAIA Championship Opening Round. USCB finished 43-6 and he was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year.
Monahan said news that Browder and Katie Rietkovich wanted to transfer was no surprise given the situation of Katie's father and the fact that Browder had grown close to the Rietkovich family.
