The USC Beaufort women's golf team made a big move Wednesday, posting a team score of 314 to move up four spots into a tie for 14th at the halfway point of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
The Sand Sharks shaved 14 shots off their first-round score, as only seven teams posted better scores in the second round. Sophomore Samantha O'Donnell (Hilton Head Island) made the biggest improvement and carded USCB's best round of the day with a 4-over-par 76, moving up to a tie for 77th.
Sophomore Victoria DeGroodt (Walden, N.Y.) matched her first-round score with another 6-over 78 and is tied for 20th, one shot ahead of senior teammate Kelli Nakano (Cave Creek, Ariz.), who is tied for 26th. Junior Kendra Collins (Bluffton) shot 81 on Wednesday and is tied for 91st, and senior Kaitlin O'Sullivan (Hilton Head Island) carded an 86 and is tied for 104th.
Cal State-San Marcos and Oklahoma City each shot 305 in the second round and are tied for the lead at 615, with USCB 27 shots behind. The other Sun Conference teams in the field also are faring well, with SCAD Savannah in fifth at 627, Embry-Riddle in seventh at 635 and Northwood (Fla.) tied for 10th at 637.

Embry-Riddle's Heather Wiquist, a Bluffton product, followed her first-round 70 with a second-round 87 to fall from the lead into at tie for 26 at 13-over 157, 14 shots offf the lead.
The Sand Sharks will be paired with University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) and Lee (Tenn.) for Thursday's third round with tee times running from 9:42 to 10:18 a.m. ET off the first tee.
The field will be cut after Thursday's round to the top 17 teams and the low 40 individuals including ties.
