LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's golf team is in 18th place after the first round of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships, as the Sand Sharks posted a team score of 328 on Tuesday at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club.
The Sand Sharks are 27 shots behind leader and Sun Conference rival Embry-Riddle, which posted a team score of 301, with individual leader Heather Wiquist leading the way at 2-under-par 70. Wiquist is a graduate of Bluffton High School.
Senior Kelli Nakano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and sophomore Victoria DeGroodt (Walden, N.Y.) led the way for USCB and are tied for 24th after shooting 6-over-par 78. The rest of the Sand Sharks' lineup will try to rebound Wednesday after a difficult start to the week.
Senior Kaitlin O'Sullivan (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) shot 85 and is tied for 102nd, junior Kendra Collins (Bluffton, S.C.) is tied for 109th after an 87 and sophomore Samantha O'Donnell (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) is tied for 121st with a 90.

USCB will play in the afternoon wave Wednesday, with tee times running from 2:50 to 3:30 p.m. ET off the 10th tee.
