KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The USC Beaufort women's golf team is headed to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship for the fourth straight year, as the Sand Sharks were granted an at-large bid to compete in the May 21-24 event at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
The Sand Sharks, ranked 11th in the most recent NAIA Women's Golf Coaches' Top 25 Poll, were one of nine teams granted at-large bids, joining 18 automatic qualifiers, host Doane (Neb.) and nine individual qualifiers in the 144-player field.
USCB is one of four schools from The Sun Conference to earn bids, joining top-ranked SCAD Savannah, No. 7 Embry-Riddle and No. 14 Northwood. The Sand Sharks finished third behind the Bees and Eagles in the Sun Conference Championship last month at Oldfield Golf Club.
The Sand Sharks finished 15th at last year's national championship after finishing 18th in 2011 and seventh in 2010.
First- and second-round pairings for the national championship will be released Friday afternoon.
