USC Beaufort senior Adriana Saavedra carded a 7-over-par 78 on the final day of the SCAD Spring Invitational to claim a two-shot victory Tuesday at Wilmington Island Club in Savannah.
Saavedra's play led the Sand Sharks golf team to a fourth-place finish in the 10-team event.
Lee (Tenn.) shot 626 to win the team title by six shots over Northwood (Fla.). Host SCAD Savannah was third at 635, followed by USCB at 637.
Saavedra entered the day tied with Northwood's Marie Couffignal for the lead after both posted 2-over 73 in Monday's first round.
Never miss a local story.
The scores went up under windy conditions Tuesday, but Saavedra was able to hold things together for a respectable 78, while Couffignal posted an 89 to fade to a tie for 15th. Lee's Geandra Almeida and Northwood's Emelie Anderson finished two shots behind Saavedra.
USCB's Phyllis Langley finished fifth at 14-over 156, and Kelli Nakano tied for seventh at 16-over 158. Langley was entered as an individual, so her score did not count toward the team total.
Kendra Collins, the reigning Sun Conference women's golfer of the week, tied for 13th at 161. Tori DeGroodt tied for 24th at 167 and Samantha O'Donnell finished 33rd at 173 to round out USCB's lineup.
The Sand Sharks have the next three weeks off to prepare for the Sun Conference Championship from April 20-21 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
