Kristy Cook and Caroline Pastre weren't perfect this time -- but they were close enough to ensure the USC Beaufort softball team stayed perfect.
Three days after tossing back-to-back perfect games against Fisher College, Cook and Pastre shut down Edward Waters, and the Sand Sharks swept the Tigers 11-0 and 20-0 in Jacksonville, Fla., on their first road trip of the season.
The offense backed USCB's pitchers with 25 hits. Katie Rietkovich and Maddie Byrd went 2 for 3, and the Sand Sharks were 7 for 7 on stolen base attempts in the opener. Barbara Phillips, Melanie Goolsby and Rietkovich each had two stolen bases.
Shelby Zipperer led the offense in the second game, going 3 for 5 with three doubles, four runs and three RBIs.
The Sand Sharks (8-0) have outscored their opponents 153-1.
Cook (3-0) allowed the first hit of her college career in the first inning but gave up only one more hit. She struck out nine, and still has not allowed a run in 15 innings.
Pastre (2-0) struck out six over four innings in the second game, allowing two hits and a walk.
USCB is scheduled to play another doubleheader today, taking on Emmanuel College at 3 p.m. at Hardeeville's Richard Gray Sports Complex.
