The threat of rain has rearranged the weekend schedule for the 21st-ranked USC Beaufort baseball team, which will try to get in the first game of an abbreviated series against Fisher (Mass.) College beginning with a single game at 1 p.m. Friday.
The teams will also play a doubleheader beginning at noon Sunday, if the weather allows.
They originally were scheduled to play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. It marks the fifth consecutive season the Falcons (0-0) have come south from Boston to open their season against the Sand Sharks.
USCB has won 14 of 15 all-time meetings, including a three-game sweep last season and 11 straight dating to 2009. The Sand Sharks (5-7) are coming off their first doubleheader sweep of the season after winning 4-3 and 6-5 against visiting Brewton-Parker on Wednesday.
Fisher is an NAIA school from Boston that competes in the Association of Independent Institutions. Led by 12th-year coach Scott Dulin, the Falcons are coming off a 22-30 campaign in 2012.
Fisher returns several of its top offensive players from last year in outfielder Eridani Dume (.322, 44 SBs), infielder Victor Lebron (.321, 21 RBIs), infielder Jose Paulino (.289, 24 RBIs) and infielder Davidson Peguero (.288, 4 HRs, 26 RBIs).
The Falcons also return their top starting pitcher in senior RHP Casey Reed (3-5, 3.30 ERA).
Friday's doubleheader at Truett-McConnell has been postponed. As of yet, there is no make-up date. Saturday's doubleheader at Emmanuel College has been pushed back to 1 p.m. Sunday.
Emmanuel handed USC Beaufort the program's first loss in its 10th game last season.
