The USC Beaufort women's golf team held its own Sunday on the South Course at Moss Creek Golf Club and sits in a tie for fourth place after the first round of the Newberry College Invitational.
The Sand Sharks posted a team score of 339 and are tied with Carson-Newman for fourth place. Armstrong Atlantic shot 311 and holds a 13-shot lead over Lander.
Sophomore Kendra Collins led the Sand Sharks with a 9-over-par 83 and is tied for 12th. Senior Adriana Saavedra also had a solid day, shooting 84 to tie for 15th.
Lander's Rachel Uremovich, a Hilton Head Island High School graduate, also was among the group tied for 15th.
Baseball, softball times change
Because of the heavy rains over the weekend, USC Beaufort will push back the times of today's softball games at the Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville.
The softball doubleheader against Fisher (Mass.) Colege will starts at 4 p.m. The baseball team will still have a single game at 1 p.m., also against Fisher at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.
