A pair of late collapses sent the USC Beaufort baseball team to two more losses and a three-game sweep at the hands of Sun Conference opponent Webber International on Saturday in Babson Park, Fla.
The Sand Sharks, who entered the series riding a 10-game winning streak, had not lost three consecutive games since their inaugural season in 2009.
USCB led both of Saturday's games going to the bottom of the seventh inning before losing the opener 5-1 and dropping the nightcap 7-6.
After scoring 12 or more runs in each of the previous four games, the Sand Sharks' offense went cold in a 5-1 loss to open the series Friday, and that carried over to Saturday's first game. For the second consecutive game, the Warriors held USCB to one run, with designated hitter Conald Mansfield driving in the lone run.
The Sand Sharks (11-4, 3-3 Sun Conference) took a 1-0 lead when Ty Main doubled and scored on Mansfield's single in the seventh, but they managed nothing more against Rob Lane, who limited USCB to five hits and didn't issue a walk in a complete game.
Meanwhile, USCB right-hander Dexter Price took a one-hitter into the seventh, but Webber International (7-10, 4-5 Sun Conference) rallied for two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth. Hunter Ovens chased Price with a two-run double to left with one out in the eighth, and a key error kept the inning alive long enough for the Warriors to score one more run.
USCB's offense improved in the final game, staking left-hander Michael Heesch to a big lead when Main's three-run home run to right made it 6-0 in the seventh, but the bullpen couldn't hold it.
The Warriors chased Heesch in a two-run seventh and dinged reliever Colton Rudd for three runs in the eighth to pull within 6-5.
Billy Farrell and Travis Noland strung together one-out singles against Andrew Barrineau in the ninth, prompting the Sand Sharks to bring in Weldon Smith from the bullpen. Smith's balk moved the runners up, and pinch-hitter Derek Self delivered a two-run single to right to win it.
The Sand Sharks return home for single games against Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday and Wednesday at 3 p.m. before heading to Northwood for another conference series next weekend.
