The USC Beaufort men's golf team followed up two solid rounds Monday with an even better one Tuesday, cruising to a nine-shot victory at the Southeastern Fire Invitational at Eaglebrooke Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
The Sand Sharks took a five-shot lead into the final round after playing the first 36 holes in 1 over par, and they posted a team score of 7-under 281 on Tuesday to run away with the team title.
It's the fourth win in five tournaments for the Sand Sharks, who wrap up their fall season as the No. 2 team in the most recent Golf World/Nike Golf NAIA Coaches Poll.
George Thacker led four USCB players who finished in the top 10, taking second for the second consecutive tournament. Thacker shot 6-under-par 210 to finish one shot behind Estaban Aristizabal of St. Thomas. Chris Lane II (214) finished sixth, Jon Pannone (216) tied for eighth, and Luke McClellan (216) tied for 10th for the Sand Sharks.
