Attempting to make peace, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney on Tuesday paid the highest of compliments to South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier.
"If I can have half the career he's had, I'll count that as a huge success," Swinney said on ESPN, where he was appearing on various programs along with other ACC coaches.
But he still managed to make a few jokes about the debate between him and Spurrier over the planet Pluto.
Last week, Swinney said he greatly respects Spurrier but it was like they are from different planets. “He’s from Pluto, and I’m from Mars,” Swinney said.
Spurrier had retorted by saying. “Planet? Dabo probably still thinks there’s only nine planets out there. I read that Pluto may not be considered one.”
Swinney on Tuesday said: “It was a planet when I was at Alabama. News travels slow there. But I’m gonna see him tomorrow. We’ll probably have a good laugh over this."
