North Carolina freshman Hayley Carter, a Hilton Head Island native, has advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship in Athens, Ga.
The seventh-seeded Carter (49-6) won in straight sets for the second consecutive day, 6-2, 6-2 over Desirae Krawczyk of Arizona State.
The Smith Stearns product will face Jenny Jullien of St. Mary's (Calif.) at 10 a.m. Friday.
In doubles action on Thursday, third-ranked Carter and Jamie Loeb were forced to come from behind to beat Tina Jiang and Crystal Leung of Columbia.
After giving away the first set, 6-3, the Tar Heels duo cruised over the last two sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to advance into the Round of 16.
Carter/Loeb will take on Notre Dame's duo of Quinn Gleason and Britney Sanders at 3 p.m. Friday.
