COLUMBIA -- South Carolina left-hander Jack Wynkoop and Alabama lefty Justin Kamplain competed in a pitchers' duel Saturday before the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide broke a tie with a run in the seventh inning on the way to a 2-1 win over the eighth-ranked Gamecocks.
Casey Hughston's RBI single in the seventh scored Wade Wass with the winning run.
Ben Moore hits his sixth homer of the season in the first inning for the Crimson Tide (29-14, 13-7 SEC). Moore and Chance Vincent both had two hits to lead Alabama at the plate.
Kamplain (4-2) got the win, with freshman left-hander Thomas Burrows adding 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for his ninth save.

Marcus Mooney's third-inning sacrifice fly accounted for the only run for the Gamecocks (33-11, 11-9 SEC). Taylor Widener went 2 for 4 and also pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings of relief for USC.
Wynkoop (5-3) worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four in the loss.
The rubber game of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. The game will be televised on ESPN.
