CLEMSON -- The 15th-ranked Clemson Tigers scored four runs in the fifth inning to defeat Winthrop, 4-2, Wednesday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Tyler Krieger's two-out, two-run single was the big hit of the fifth inning for Clemson (19-9), which won its fifth game in a row.
Starter Clate Schmidt (4-4) earned the win by allowing just four hits, one run and one walk with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Matt Campbell registered his sixth save of the year, pitching the ninth inning.
Starter Zach Sightler (2-2) took the loss for Winthrop (14-17), which is led by former Clemson assistant coach Tom Riginos.
